…and as if our 17 Seconds news wasn’t enough, we’re also pleased to announce that Escape Act is now a four-piece! We’ve asked Ross Neely to join us on guitar, but also expect some vocal and keyboard action along the way. Ross played his first gig on Friday at the Purty Loft, and the new sonic addition went down a treat. He’ll also be performing tomorrow (Wednesday) at our Sky Larkin support show.
After an extremely relaxing Christmas holiday, followed by various colds, flus and back to work blues…. things are getting back to normal for us. We’ve been busy in the rehearsal room, readying songs for new recording sessions starting in February, so it’s back to Chem19 for some more good times. We’ve also be honing three tracks for a live session for Rory McConnell’s Radio 1 show, taking place next week… stay tuned for details of broadcast dates!
We’re also fitting some gigs in around this, so look out for shows in Dundalk (Jan 31st), Belfast (6th & 18th Feb) and a Whelan’s show Dublin on 28th Feb, supporting the excellent Cashier No.9.
The first Belfast show mentioned above, on Friday 6th February, is actually an acoustic set at UnConvention Belfast. This is an ‘unconference’ that i’m helping to organise. For anyone interested in the development of the music industry, or making new contacts or seeking inspiration for their own music career development, UnConvention is the place to be. Check out the website at unconventionbelfast.com for details and registration! Thanks to the generosity and vision of our key sponsors at Belfast City Council Creative Industry unit, and NIMIC its free to attend too, tho places are quickly running out.
Finally, check out this video, shot by Barry Cullen of us performing ‘Burning Sand’ at our recent show at the Menagerie. cheers to Barry for putting it up there
All in all, we’re looking forward to a fun, productive and creative 2009. Thanks for listening so far!
Since we started recording ‘Loosely Based On Fiction’ we’ve been discussing the various options and ideas open to us for actually releasing it. Now its decision time and we thought we’d share our experience of the process as we go along!
This scrawl is my initial ‘mind map’ designed to capture the essence of all our discussions, establishing all the bases we need to cover, decisions yet to be made, and the tasks to be delegated.
One of the first things to get moving is the cdbaby.com album registration. These guys very kindly handle the distribution of the album on the established digital channels, provide the barcode for the physical album, and retail it through their own site and other physical outlets. For a band in our position, they provide a great service and take care of the various practical but intractable tasks that could otherwise take the fun out of the project. They’ll also be a great shop window for us promoting the music in all manner of ways!
Other things that are on the list include:
- deciding on a target list for media, we can’t cover everyone
- deciding on a strategy for downloads and sales from our own sites
- making some more videos to complement the tunes
- asking our fans and friends to spread the word
- and many more!!
Plans are well advanced for the release of our 10-song album ‘Loosely Based on Fiction’. Alan has been busy putting the finishing touches to the artwork and we’re finalising production and distribution details for a release in early October! This will be followed by a series of gigs in Ireland, Scotland and England.
We’re also looking at some interesting ideas for promoting the record, including free downloads, remixes and whatnot, but if you’ve any weird or wonderful ideas, please let us know! We want to get our music heard by as many people as possible.
In the meantime we’re busy rehearsing some new songs and we’re really looking forward to our Dublin Underground show on September 18th at McGrudders, Thomas Street. More details on that shortly.
As part of an upcoming promotional event, highlighting UK music over in Japan, we’ve been included as ‘Undiscovered’ artists on the website-of-the-campaign. Users can see our profile and hear our tunes via myspace, and if they like us, they can vote to show their appreciation!
If you happen to be from Japan, or just wanna help out, you could put this banner on your web page, myspace, facebook, bebo or whatever using the code below!
we spent some time with Phil O’Kane on Sunday taking some nice shots for upcoming artwork and stuff. things are moving along nicely, with mastering of our tracks almost complete and plans afoot for releases and gigs come easter time. in the meantime we’ve a few new toys to play with and a few promo covers to stencil
