Sky Larkin support slot! Yay!

We’re pretty chuffed to be supporting Sky Larkin on May 6th at Auntie Annies, Belfast. They are one of my favourite new bands at the moment and they rock the big one live. This will be an excellent show in the newly upgraded Auntie Annies’ live room, can’t wait!

“Day 3 of Session 3… In the morning further energy was put into capturing the emotion of the different sections of ‘Burning Sand’. After a couple of hours with some re-amped guitar work and omnichord we all felt the character of the song was really coming into focus. As we worked through the next track ‘Pressure’ we also took time to reflect on work done over the previous two days, everything we’ve down sounds really together, simple and uncomplicated. For ‘Pressure’ we got some interesting guitar interplay in the chorus and a real highlight was the dulcimer part that Chris recorded – a steep learning curve with an amazing result. We also managed to track basslines for ‘Gas’ and ‘Salt in your Eye’ with Rich nailing ‘Salt’ in just one or two very impressive passes. Now to recharge the batteries before the May session, creativity is exhausting!

Dun Laoghaire Gig

We’ve been asked by the guys at State.ie and AU Magazine to play a show next Friday at the Purty Loft in Dun Laoghaire, just south of Dublin. Also playing are The Rags and John Shelly and the Creatures. If you are in the area, what better way is there to kick off your Bank Holiday weekend? In fact, even if you aren’t in the area, come along, book a B&B, make a weekend of it, what have you got to lose?

Yesterday we continued to refine Burning Sand and Folded Arms, working on electric and acoustic guitars and percussion. We also added ‘Pressure’ into the mix, working on guitar parts. During the first album recording sessions we more or less worked on each song until it was complete, checking them off the list as we went along. This time we’re nudging several tracks along, following the inspiration as it comes. Its feeling good so far. :-)

the session also produced a breakthrough in Anglo-mexican cuisine with the invention of ‘Fajitoast’ a winning combination of mexican chicken, peppers, onions, salsa, cheese, and, well toast. a traditional take on the South American classic.

thanks to David for the heads-up on excellent iPhone app Camerabag and its interesting vintage filters!
